Regina de Vivie-Riedle

Regina came to my office in JILA in 1991, sat down, and announced that she might as well work in my experimental group because Eberhardt was going to be a Visiting Fellow in JILA. That self-assurance was a constant throughout her entire career, even when it was difficult to obtain permanent positions. She was the only formally trained theorist ever to grace the Leone group. In Boulder she revised a code from George Schatz to study alignment and orientation dynamics in collisions, with coherence, a subject totally new to her. That sophisticated work was done while giving birth in Boulder. In each position after, she made breathtaking strides in new directions. For me, this culminated in a collaboration on a 2021 publication involving strong field extreme ultraviolet attosecond probing of molecular dissociative ionization, something new to both of us. My wife and I are deeply affected by her loss. It is her dry sense of humor, aplomb in the face of adversity, and enthusiasm for science that we will always remember. Steve Leone and Mary Gilles
