We offer our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of our Dear Professor Erich Sackmann. He welcomed us into his E22 laboratory in the end of 1997. He was my thesis supervisor and my husband postdoc host. Those were wonderful years of research and science in the field of biophysics.
Professor Erich Sackmann was not only a brilliant scientist and a leading figure in his field, but also a humble and deeply humane person. Close to his students, he guided us with kindness, always enthusiastic about sharing his passion for research and science.
He marked our lives in many ways: by attending our wedding in Lyon (France), meeting our families in France and Tunisia, and even by improvising billiards games with our sons at a Humboldt Kolleg conference in Hammamet (Tunisia).
His passing leaves a great void in the world of biophysics and in our hearts. He was not only a mentor but also a dear friend.
